Pensacola Seafood Festival

This past weekend was the annual Seafood Festival in Pensacola.  I like to attend local fairs and festivals because they generally don't any have restrictions on photography, unlike arenas or concert venues. This allows me the opportunity to take photos and build my portfolio.  Most of my concert photos have been of country artists so I was excited to hear that the Molly Ringwalds were performing at this year's festival. They are a regional band based out of New Orleans that covers 80's pop and rock music.  What makes them interesting is their appearance.  The band members dress like characters from the 80's (Adam Ant, Pee Wee Herman, Devo, Dee Snider and the Karate Kid).

I took my younger son with me and we managed to wiggle our way through the crowd so that I was right up against the barrier in front of the right side of the stage.  One of my weaknesses is that I tend to always shoot with a longer focal length, 300mm on my APS-C D7100 or 200mm on my full frame D750. This allows me to take tight shots of the performer but prevents me from getting wide angle shots of the entire stage.  I bought a standard zoom 24-70mm f2.8 earlier in the year and decided to give it a try for this show.  My intent was to start with this lens to get wide-angle shots and then to switch to my 70-200mm f2.8 lens to get some close-ups. Unfortunately, my son who was holding my camera bag, let people get between us so I was unable to retrieve the longer zoom lens. Luckily the performers occasionally came over to the right side of the stage so I was still able to get some decent closeups shooting at 70mm.  Overall, I would say these are my best concert photos yet.  Below are some of my better photos from the show.

This week is the Pensacola Beach Songwriters festival so I am hoping to take some more concert photos.  If all goes well then I will post photos next week.
